Don’t even know where to start on reels. Cabelas reel isn’t really worth much. The Penn seems to have a lot of parts online and still made. It sounds great clicking but I know nothing of these setups.

I’m hesitant to downsize for snapper I keep letting strip my livey pinfish because I know I’ll get a tarpon or shark as soon as I do. Even juveniles can throw a size 1 circle hook unfortunately. 5/0 circles worked for biggest mangroves yesterday and everything else so hoping big fish show soon.

No pics yet, the kids gram got them. A 3’ish nurse shark cruises by and I reeled in quick enough to hook it. My 7 yo ran down to land it😀 He wanted to get one and he’s got it made hanging in shady pool waiting for dad to hook one he can reel in.

We booked an additional night and canceled Miami Hilton night. I’ll take mom And my niece to the airport tomorrow then we head on to West Palm Beach until Wed.

All but the 105 heat index million percent humidity part. Mom is shocked it’s off-season. I’m not, no one in their right mind visits S FL in late July.

Daughter threw back her keeper snapper and we only took about 20 of our 50 limit. Would’ve limited in another hour but my daughter is so cute she made the Capt feel bad and we headed offshore.

If it wasn’t so unbearably hot I’d charter a center console to go in the Backcountry for Tarpon and Drum. No freaking way in these temps. Give me single digits in Erie anyday over this.

Our dock is where the tarpon and surprise snook got caught. Lost a big tarpon when I was slow to realize I had it and it had me all wrapped in dock pylons. Manatees and their babies keep coming in to grab fish carcasses making it a little worrisome to fish there. So much for vegetarians only lol.

Even managed to somehow hook a huge parrotfish but I muscled him too much and his beak wasn’t hooked well. The tarpon at marinas are awesome but hard to find in fishable places. I managed the one on a mahi belly. That tarpon was about 4’. Just a little guy by comparison to 200 lbs residents...

Highly recommend fishing here between November and March for bigger fish and tolerable temps. 105 with heat index, glad I picked a big boat with AC. It wasn’t much different but enough to minimize heatstroke. All got boat sick and family slept a lot on the boat but did get in on fishing when...
