    The Latest Sale Thread

Football heads are not the best choice for weeds. Look back at that JIGHEAD thread from a few months ago. Football is at its best in more open water. Gravel, mud areas. Often just dragging it on the bottom. Weeds will be more fishable with a narrower profile head like the one pic A5 has.

    Attractants

I'm a fan of powerbait. 4" worms for finessing, 7" for flipping. 2" gulp minnows for calico and perch. I make basically a smelly jelly of my own. Just vaseline and craw or Chompers garlic.

[Archived] What did you Catch Today?

I had a little success today. Different lake lol. Kept 7 bigger gills, 1 - 12" calico, and a trout. Tossed back about 10 small gills and perch. Another trout and a nice bass also went back.

    Lake Winola

I think Winola and Harveys are only memories for ice fishing any more. We might get some ice but the amount of docks with huge bubbler systems is making it harder to get and keep ice.

    First trip

FINALLY back on the ice  . A buddy and I went to Lackawanna State Park today. Not the best day we've had there but got some fish. Kept about 25 between us. Only two calico, the rest gills. Two trout and several bass from 8 to 14.5". 4" of good clear ice.

    This weeks Gear talk. Flurocarbon

I dont use a lot of fluoro. 10 pound on a couple baitcasters for a jig or a squarebill. And they aren't primary baits. Funny thing is I like Red Label 6# for my finesse baits like hair jigs, small spiders, neds ect. I find it softer than others and strong. Fluoro from 8# up sux on a spinning...

    Walleyes through the ice?

Susky is the best bet. Jighead/chub, hairjig/bigger fathead. Pimple or jigging rap with a minnow head are what we always used.

    Ice update

I'm not a pickerel fan but I've had fish cakes made from pickerel and they were really good. I've been told if you grind the fillets the bones arent an issue?? Supposedly they get chopped up and basically dissolve when cooked.

    Ice update

I've only been there three times. Its about 50 miles from me. Its usually one of the first and last to have safe ice so I go there as a last resort. Its not a destination for me. Always got some fish. Nothing great. I think 6 or 7 keepers was may best day. Quite a few dinks every time.

    New 14' Skiff

As usual I'm not really sure what your end game is here. Lots of good info shared especially by TS. Seeing what you hope to do I agree with Melvin about having both trolling motors. The transom mount is for getting you from point A to point B. Its other use is for trolling. Thats about it. They...

    Punching, Pitching and flipping

Flipping and pitching are nothing other then a way to present a bait in shallower water with minimal disturbance. Both are best with a 7 to 7 1/2 foot heavy action rod. Heavy line, whatever type you prefer. Flipping is up close combat style fishing. Usually the bait it dropped at a target...

    Weights

First thing is a good work space. Ventilation is important. A strong, stable, solid surface to work from. Keep the area around you open and uncluttered. Safety goggles for sure. Gloves are optional only because they are a pain to work with when putting hooks into the mold. Paint if you're so...
