Now you got me hooked on jigs. Dang it. I need a wholesale source for tungsten jigs. Does anyone have such a place. Can't believe what they cost. I'll be in Maine in a couple of weeks and Lead, painted or otherwise, is not allowed in the area or jigs. I just paid almost $2 a piece for 1/4 oz. - Ouch.

Why do you need tungsten? I've purchased these in the 1/8th size and they are quality -
Atibin Barb Jig Head
They have very nuanced fishing lawson most of New England and lead jigs under 1 ounce and 2.5" long are not allowed. Last thing I need is a ticket. I even thought of making my own...but then...did you ever see what things the I make look like? Uck.

Don what lake is no lead jig head. In NY you can’t sell them. But you can fish with them

So Far as I know all lakes banned them. This fall they will get even stricter. This is a trend in many states and I may as well get on board with it. I'm also interested in brass

Maine: Understanding the Law Regarding the Sale and Use of Lead Sinkers and Lead Jigs

The sale and use of lead sinkers and unpainted lead jigs less than 2.5 inches long and/or weighing less than 1 ounce is currently prohibited.

Beginning September 1, 2024, the SALE of painted lead jigs less than 2.5 inches long and/or weighing less than 1 ounce is prohibited; and beginning September 1, 2026, the USE of painted lead jigs less than 2.5 inches long and/or weighing less than 1 ounce is prohibited.

The prohibited USE of lead sinkers and jigs is interpreted to apply to all inland waters and not to tidal waters.

"Lead sinker" means a device that contains lead that is designed to be attached to a fishing line and intended to sink the line.

"Lead sinker" and "lead jigs" do not include artificial lures, weighted line, or weighted flies.

The measurement of the lead sinker or lead jig shall include all components that are permanently manufactured to the lead itself. This does not include any additional items that have been added to the original manufactured device.

Who is our resident interpreter? What is this telling us?

That rule may be the dumbest liberal state run idiocy of a rule ever. The size of the hook determines the pollution risk? I would rather fish trout in Philadelphia

It’s telling me not to fish there. I literally wouldn’t be able to take my tackle up there. Plenty of places to go and fish without the aggravation.

I am more and more of the opinion that laws were made to be broken...Of course there are potential consequences, and I don't live in Maine or plan to visit.

2.5” is easy to get around depending on the interpretation of permanent

Yeah, I've been doing that all my life...wait...what are we talking about now?

I'm OK for this trip with lead I believe but in Sept and next year they get more strict. New Hamshire and VT are there as well to some degree. It seems that Loons (I'm not talking about you or me) are getting these in their digestive system and dying. I guess tungsten goes right through. I don't know. But there is nothing like visiting the Island (Acadia). you can catch Mackerel, Cod and so forth one minute, drive a mile and catch Brownies or bass.

They aren't liberal...they're purple. That's the scariest part. Unpredictable.

Not buying it.

IF they had not been waging a nationwide war on lead for, what? Nigh on 3 or 4 decades now, and...
IF they had not already been caught lying to us multiple times about lead supposedly poisoning this or that (mostly birds) and then it coming out later that it wasn't true, and they knew it wasn't true, and...
IF they had not been soundly caught lying to us so thoroughly and so vastly on so many things in so many areas over the last 10 years or so
Then I MIGHT actually believe them.
But I don't.
