    Boat Advice

Fishing is the main intended use. No specific type of fishing. I'd like to be able to fish for almost anything in fresh water. I have no interest in skiing or tubing. Blue Marsh is one of the 3 reasons I am thinking about boats. The other 2 reasons are standing and being able to move my...

    Boat Advice

Alright, I am thinking about getting my first boat sometime next year. I know I can be long winded so the important parts are bolded and underlined if you want to skip the small talk. I'd like to keep it as inexpensive as possible. No financing, probably >$4000 and as far less as possible be...

    Lake Erie steelhead

I always go with the big water verses small water instead of salt or no salt. I steel consider them stillhead in the grate leaks ;) One of the problems with biology since the discovery and sequencing of DNA is where to make a classification. We have so much more detail now and we can separate...

[Archived] What did you Catch Today?

Yesterdays trip to Bear Place with Don. We each caught a pickerel and perch. Don's pics first. Sun was bright and I couldn't tell if the fish was visible in the pics or not until I got back to the car. This pic was the best fo the 2 or 3 I took of this one. The perch struck a perfect...

    Perca, Pomoxis, lepomis

Yeah, there were almost as many salmon as A-5 has kids........and no one to snag them all ;) The wind and waves were pretty bad. Don asked me if I get sea sick. I said no but if I spend a long time on the water then the world keeps bouncing after I get off. The world was still bouncing...

    Blue Marsh

I think your best best would be to launch at Shiedy and hit the orange circled area closest to it. Your 2nd best shot would the orange circled areas around dry brook launch. But that is very wake, and will be bouncy.

    Blue Marsh

If you go back there be careful. Just west/left of the narrow section immediately west/left of the southern arm entrance stumps start and go all the way back to the creek opening. I found them by bumping them with my yak or my paddle. I can't imagine they'd be good for a boat and I think that...

    Blue Marsh

I put a red circle where it is on the map you posted before. By the time I got to the 4 just inside the left edge of your green box I had to turn around. It was too bouncy, even in the 13.5' monster. A number of the boats that whizzed past me headed down that arm to the south. It made me...

    Blue Marsh

Yeah, that's probably the tightest creek I've been on in the yak. The lady I talked to said she brings pruning shears sometimes and cuts some of the more problematic branches.

    Blue Marsh

The old Battleship all dressed up and ready to go. I brought some of the longer rods as Blue Marsh holds some bigger fish than I usually encounter. Bigger species, not just bigger individuals. About to launch the battleship in a tight place. The forest maze Had to lay the rods down to...

    Blue Marsh

Finally got around to transferring the pics from 10/10 and 10/11 to the computer. To many to sort and post from phone. You'd be amazed at what can fit in a Corolla trunk. 2 PFDs, 2 kayak seats, 2 paddles, 8 or 10 rods, tackle bag, extras bag, kayak accessories, and a bunch of other crap...

    Baitcasters

I guess I will just stick with spinning gear and leave bait casters alone unless/until my situations change.

    Lake Erie steelhead

All of them would do it if they could. There are different sub species in different places with minor differences. But they are all rainbows if they live in small water and steelhead if they go to big water and return to small water to spawn.

    Baitcasters

On an OPEN shore I agree. When I got back into fishing in the mid 2000s my first rod was a 6'. It worked great at first, at walk up and fish places with fairly open shoreline. But when I started creeping along creek edges to get to less crowded spaces it was always poking into a bush or...
