Bass fishing

Everyone has their opinion on what types of lures are best for bass I realize that timing and conditions mean pretty much everything but what types of lures for bass do you like best like rubber or jigs maybe crank baits or surface buzzers or poppers I’m figuring largemouths smallmouth are a whole different breed don’t have to give away any secrets just a general form

One bait I could have only one. Not the funnest. Not the sexiest. But would probably catch fish anywhere and you would go toe to toe with the guys using anything else is

The senko. TS refuses to put them I. His boat cause he would throw it more. It’s the truth. But I have not those morals

Any time I'm able to fish the river and its not high and muddy I prefer throwing a walk the dog action lure. My newest go to is River2Sea Rover.

Hah! A-5 is correct about the Senkos, they are however back on my boat again. I forced myself to stop using them for a while so I could learn other methods. End result though is it worked, I have learned other methods and some I actually enjoy more than Senkos. I still love a Senko when the Bass are up at the banks, too much fun!

My favorite method however is jig fishing and I've mentioned that in other threads. Football jigs with a Rage Craw (see, no L! LOL) trailer for deep but I will fish them shallow as well, dragging towards the deep. The only time I don't like to use them is against wood but I still do, I just know that I will get hung up, probably sooner than later. ;)

I find that both LM and SM bass like the Football Jig as well. I pick up more SM when fishing deeper than LM and vice versa. My favorite color is a brownish jig with a green / orange trailer. I always tip the claws with spike-it, usually in chartreuse.

I'm in the senko camp for large mouth. Probably what I throw the most of. I've had good luck with the yum lizard baits also. Usually on a Texas rig. If there's any top water bite I like the rebel frog r' or the old hula poppers. They work great on the ponds around here.

Smallies my favorite is the rebel craw. Always seems to catch something. I also have good luck with different trout magnet baits for them. I fish them without a float and just let them fall for bass/pan fish. You'll catch a lot of little ones, but the bigger ones will eat it to. Works best sight fishing so you get a good hook set and they don't swallow the damn thing.

I agree with the senko statement. I dont use them too much because they dont suit my style often. From ice out til about late April the water is still cold. A lot of fish are staying deep. Finesse with a dropshot, hair jig, keitech works for me. No secret I night fish most of the summer. Warm water, aggressive fish feeding heavily up shallow has me using bigger baits. Chatterbait/ spinnerbait 90% of the time. Squarebill cranks the other 10%. We can cover a lot of ground with these lures looking for active fish

Night fishing in summer are you catching anything other than LMB and SMB?

Truth be told I am rarely after a trophy. I prefer to eat freshwater fish. 9inch panfish, 20" pickerel, 12-15" bass, any trout more than 6 months out of the hatchery.
Recently Ron on Fishing talks was saying that the Senko was his best offering for brown trout, lakers, stripers and LMB when trolling in lakes for suspended fish.
