Flashers

You might want to look at something with side sonar. That should help out with the shallow waters. They have so much out there and came a long way with it.

As for flasher i would save it for ice. I’ve never used one so don’t know how they work but don’t you have to sit still for it to work.
Ideally, yes, if the "ice ducer" (transducer) swings the readings get all jazzed up. I've tried using my Marcum ice flasher from a boat and it was not worth the effort.

I want small. Quit picking on me,lol, don't you remember that little boat ride and how tight it is? Furthermore I only catch small fish.
My boat is smaller than yours and I wish I had a fish finder twice the size ;)

So the point is a boat floats so you want it to read the bottom while moving. I’ve seen YouTube vids with the guys and flashers. They all have made special rigs so the transducer hangs perfectly in the water and they just sit there. On the schools. Why need anything in that case. I can find a school a fish without anything and sit there and catch fish. I’ve done it before. 🙂

Flashers are apparently popular with some folks in deeper water more or less to confirm what they're seeing in the fish finder. And there is no delay in display.

I have no problems with reading my screen and shows me what I need to see in deep water. As for the delay I never get one. If I do can't even notice it. I can drop a big lure in under the transducer and can read it all the way. I usuallylike jigging this way.

Well okay. This is part of my learning curve. TC I may borrow it in spring for Mauch Chunk.

I dont know anybody that uses a flasher on a boat. At least not in the last 15 years. The only thing it will provide is a depth reading. For seeing fish or structure its less than useless. Ice flashers are a bit different. Add to the fact they are perfectly still and colorized.

TC I hope to use the boat one more time at Hidden Lake and don't need depth sounder there. Then away it will likely go.

So how do you tell your wife that you're learning to understand Flashers.

To add a little info. Many finders also have an Amplitude Scope view that you can turn on to accompany your traditional sonar view. To the right of the screen, you’ll see that roughly 1“ area and it shows you in “real time” much like a flasher.

The finder I have as well as many others also have the flasher screen. Notice how the flasher screen also has the Amplitude Scope to the right as well.

And just for clarification. Many units, like the Striker have GPS. GPS is not to be confused with mapping as mapping includes actual maps. GPS units, will just show a point on a screen although I believe the Striker series you can create your own maps by cruising around your body of water.

I’m not looking for a plotter. Just waypoints I can save to return to.

Troutspinner that seems to be a cool concept. But I don't know about it enough to be a judge. Guess I'll just have to start using these things.

We had someone around here before, well, around the old place, who was a rep or something for one of the companies that produces map SD cards for fish finders. Did he make it over to this forum?

I have the Humminbird Pirahna?? That came with my boat that you are welcome to. Just need to cross path and it’s yours. It’s the one that retails for $100 but IMO should retail for $50. It has sonar and that is it.
