Fluke

It’s a fluke that we caught no flounder today. Don financed the trip and we met at dawn in Manasquan. We had a bag full of good intentions and we still have good attitude but we’ll have to go back for the fish. Thanks DonM for a great day.

Troutspinner and I also struck out at Blue Marsh today. Never the less it was a good day. Out on the water, under a blue sky, with beautiful scenery and good company. It beats the hell out of working, even without fish.

We saw a bass swimming up under a bush, a sunfish that was checking out TS's lure, and a muskie cruising past us but nothing would bite.

I got a lot of education on bait casters, and some new techniques to use with them, and fish finders. Great stuff on fish finders. And boats.

Troutspinner is classy people, no matter what Don says about him ;)

Today was a good day

My son caught a beauty 20" when we were Striper fishing this past weekend in Raritan so they are definitely around. Of course, that was 2 days too early. :(. It would have been a very good meal.

DonM had some nice reels for flounder fishing. Two Penn's and two Showmannows. If he is watching maybe he will Identify them but I'm pretty sure they were the 4000 size of each and they worked flawlessly.
What were you using for Striper?

I use Shimano Stradic 3000 series spinning reels for Stripers.

My friend has the Stadic model. I bought the Nasci because it was cheaper, and I have to watch my spending money. Well we compaired them, and he now has a couple Nasci's. We saw no diddereanc in the too, except cost. Is Shimano trying to sell more reels at a cheaper cost??

Nasci did not exist when I purchased these Stradics. They’ve since released the Vanford Series as well. I also had two Ulterra reels but one has already bit the dust and the other is showing its quality. The Stradics have held up very nicely.

I guess I'll have to wait and see, this is only the 2nd year to use them. And I only use the about 20 times a summer

I’m sure you’ll be fine. I wasn’t just reeling in wet line, I was taking full drenching splashes on my kayak at the time and then we do get some splashing in the boat as well. The second Ulterra never seen Kayak action so it’s probably why it’s still working.

Saltwater corrision. I had a whole rig go in the inlet, guy next to me snagged it. I flushed it out right away, got home a tore it apart. Greased & oiled it. Then something I always do, coated the inside of the housing & rotor, inside the spool and outside with Corrision Block grease. I do wipe down the outside. No sign of corrosion on said reel. I do think that was the reel Don was using Tuesday.

Yes, lol, and it was bad luck. Only caught a small crab. Have to try again. Had a blast.

Anyone have a fluke report in North Jersey lately. I've been stuck moving into a new place, for 3 weeks now. I really need a break, even with the price of gas. I want to head to my go to place Point Pleasant Manasquan inlet

Cape May they were catching limits in 3 hours on the charters I talked to. The one we crabbed on had taken 10 keepers with 4 really big ones that morning.

I caught a small one in a crab trap but not sure that counts.

I've been so busy setting up things from my move. I haven't even been able to do any trout fishing local:(. Was hoping to get to Point Pleasant this week, but looks like not till Tuesday or Wednesday. I also haven't set up my man cave/basement or unpacked any of the hobby stuff. My priorities have never been this bad,,,,,LOL

Well finally getting my 2nd fluke trip in tomorrow. Though I don't count the 1st one, had a rookie with me Don😂. May not count tomorrow either taking my brother-inlaw, he never fished for fluke. Just kidding!!! I am hoping the storm doesn't bring, a lot of crap into the Inlet.
