Heavier Spinning Rod

I want to acquire a rod for 5-10lb fish. It will have a 40 or 50 size vintage reel on it that will sport some type of 8-12 lb line on it. The target species will be pike, walleye, bluefish, striper and trout while drift trolling.
What power and tip speed, how long, What type of guides and how many. What is your dream Bass/Big Brown dream rod?

The trolling aspect is out of my experience but I use a 7’-1” to 7’-4” Medium Heavy with a Fast Tip for almost everything. The same rod I use for Bass I also use for Stripers and Blues. I don’t know that I would troll with them though if I were into trolling.

Not exactly a dream. But the gx2 is absolutely hands down the workhorse of the industry.

The level line trolling is easy to do and is for stick and crank baits. no big deal. I want to get the power proponents right so I can handle the occasional big trout or small Salmon. There are record size bass in this lake and medium sized Northerns. I've been broken off 3 times at Gouldsboro and once at FEW and I'm sure it was line and rod related. I had been thinking 6'6" because I sit allot and it will be easier. If you think I need 7+' its what I'll get.
A-5, I have that in a bait caster rod. I've always liked the value that these affordable rods bring to fishing.
I have over 75 rods to choose from and I just found a Silstar Graphite, Medium heavy with a fast tip, 7'. I was going to build one but now I find one in my collection. Cool

Trolling can be used with a shorter rod but if casting with it longer rod helps. I don’t own a rod under 7ft anymore cause I like how a bigger rod fights the fish for you. As for action and strength depends on you. Do you want a fight or just bring them in like a log. Just keep the rod in your guide lines of line weight.

I got a 9ft ugly stick medium works great for an all around rod.

9 ft is long. That is fly rod length. I'm gonna give this 7' medium/heavy a try. I'll likely be using a Penn 710Z or a DAM quick 285 on it. I just found a red Shimano Superba Med/heavy, fast tip, 6 1/2' as well I'll see which I like better.

I going to have to get a CDL. I'll need a trailer to carry these rods around. first it was 7, then 7'4", then 9', and now 10'. Well, I asked.

Are you shore fishing or fishing from a boat?

Latest! I already own them so that is a beginning.

Penn Z is 8lb and DQ285 is 12lb. Both rods are 7' medium, one being M/H. I had two spools of Big Game and that is what I used.

I’m running a soft Pinland 10’6” with a size15 spinning rod lately lol. Not sure what to make of it but the tip is designed for float fishing a mini pin and it’ll launch super light bait but seems to have a steep learning curve on loading. I like St Croix so I’m going in that direction for longer spinning rods. I like a lot of flex though too. At least for the first 2/3rds. So fast tip but mod to slow down the rod. Might explain why I like fly rods for spinning tackle.

"A bit small, the St Croix Wild River at 10’6” to 13’ is where I want to migrate to."

Forget the CDL. I might need a supertanker. :LOL:

I’ve done both with it shore and boat/kayak fish.
