I'm not a trout guy. I'll be fishing crystal clear water next week that is split between warm and coldwater species. If I understand correctly Trout can be leader shy. What would you use? I've seen folks call for 9-15' and that sounds excessive to me. I don't have much floor. I do have a bunch of mono tippet in O, 2, 3 if I remember correctly. Will that do? What do you do.

Water is too warm for trout, if you do hook one it'll turn over, no fight. But anyway, if you're using a streamer you can get away with heavier tippet. Drifting nymphs under water 4-5lb test or 5X, dry flies the same, I was using 4lb test tippet on my dries at the end of May. Leader length will also differ depending upon what and how deep you are fishing. 9 foot leader + tippet is pretty standard. I will to 10-12 feet with tippet on dries which allows more room to manipulate your fly line without disturbing the drift of the fly.

Then if get a big smallie it'll shred your light line tippet.

My leader is 20lb mono to 6lb mono. Run it about 9ft. On my fly. Spinning I run straight 6lb mono.

I'll be in Pickerel Water mostly so its 17 or 20 mono or Floro.

If that's what your going for then just run about a foot or 2 of floro or mono.

Like HD said water will be hot for trout so keep them they wont make it in hot waters. If your going for trout you cant run that big of a leader so you may want just a trout rod setup. With no higher than 6lb anykinda line.

Really depends on what you’re chasing and now as for floro and mono if you’re going to be fishing a gin clear mountain stream go floro if you’re trying to cover as many different types of water then grab every spool of mono u have 4,6,8,12,14-15,20,30 just take a good spread of what you got on hand basically just take the line that fits the fish you’re targeting silly lol
