I'm shutting down all trips further than Merril Creek (8.7mi) for the rest of summer. Wife is loosing her job next week and we have extensive pre-planned family vacation time that will take up most of July and Aug. I have all the Fish in the freezer that I could eat in the next 6 Months. Since I only have the Delaware and Merrill creek to choose from in that radius I am choosing to Pickerel alone for the next many trips. I know there will be many bass and crappy that will glam-on but My pursuit will be specifically Pickerel all summer.

The biggest reason I switched to NJ is that Merrill Creek is only a little over 8 miles away and the other reason I that I've read that this is the place where specialists feel that the next NJ State records will be caught over the next couple of years. Bass, Pickerel and Salmon(already this year) have been growing in average compare to other record lakes in the region (hopatcong, Budd and others).

Sorry to hear about the wife. If you want something closer check out the fish comm. looks like a lot of waters out your way hold pickerel.
That 9lb one would have been a record.

Sol Merrill creek is the closest other than the Lehigh River and the Lehigh doest have many this far downstream. I can't wait for this summer to straighten out for Sweetie Pie and I.

I didnt know that. But are they keeper sized? From New Hope and Lumberville North to Easton it has been drained and filled many times since Rita. I'd expect anything in there to be moderately sized. Where in the canal are you speaking. My Mom learned to swim at the last lock in Bristol. My Dad learned to swim in, in the canal, at Point Pleasant.

Any time I ever fished the canal I’ve caught pickeral. Didn’t matter where but mostly the yardley area. I wouldn’t know what a keeper size pickerel is since I have no intentions of catching them let alone taking them home. I will say they are small like around 12” and can be caught in and among the weeds and plant life.

18 yes. There are actually three varieties. Chain, Grass, Redfin. They all live in this area.
