I have been using Palomar for Blue fish lures for years. It is my preference for Rapala style stuff and spinners. Because of poor eyesight I don't use it on bait hooks or flies. It is one of those super simple knots you wonder why you didn't learn it as a kid. A-5 prevailed in getting me to use the Improved Clinch instead of the regular. Other knots look important as well. First the loop knot: I use this for large streamers when fly-fishing.
Secondly, knots I don't use yet, the Uni and the Trilene. Lastly, when making leaders, the Knotless snell. That knotless snell seems appropriate for bench-tied leaders and I will attempt to learn to tie it faster.
The best trait to look for, when choosing new knots to learn, is how they are perceived with your hands and brain as you must be able to tie the knots instinctively. In dark and light. Some knots just don't cut it for this left-handed Pennsyvania Dutchman.
