Yes indeed I'm listening....what?

I did meet a couple folks that said walleye don't require anything special. I find that hard to believe.

I think it depends on the body of water. I do ok on the Big D throwing jerk baits but I’ve yet to catch one on Blue Marsh except a mistake catch. I picked up a Walleye lure to try this year, a snap jigging lure.

On the other hand, I believe any fish is easy to catch once you understand how to locate and present to them on their body of water so those guys saying it’s easy, they’ve got it down for their body(ies) of water.

Ever person does different things sometimes they work sometimes they don’t but keep every note in your head if need be write it down no joke listen to uncle mel

Agreed about taking notes. It is so easy to become overwhelmed on the water. You wouldn’t think so but you do because you get lost in your own mind.

Since I started fishing Bass, say 4 years ago, I’ve watch and read a zillion YouTube videos and articles. I weed through the sales pitches and note the things worth trying because scenarios match. I continually add to the notes and remove things that have become second nature to me. The night before I go out, I read all of it to keep it fresh in my mind. It works!

I know the feeling Mark, I've been overwhelmed. Initially it helped me to limit my activities to one or two lakes so I could learn the Lake's idiosyncrasies. Artificial lures are still my weakness. I fish and fish and catch nothing. put on live bait and have fish on the first cast. Then I hear of guys like MB3 that catch 6 or more bass on most outings. Go figure.

Sol and Uncle Melvin you guys are crazy buying that AFW Surflon stuff. So I bought 15lb.myself. 7 strand and knottable. We'll see. I hear it is not necessary to crimp it but it can actually be tied.

Standard clinch for me it’s tying instructions are on the back of the spool it’s not cheap but u only need a little 10/12 inches for pickerel would be plenty but don’t use your teeth to cut it lol

I'm sorry Melvin but I want to use the fancy stuff, I need to have something to brag about at parties and so forth (since I don't seem to catch fish).
I'm thinking of the Trilene, uni and simple knotless snell. I was going to use the TC knot but I can't afford to loose that many hooks.
Do you folks think 15 lb 7wire is too heavy?

Don don’t you think that the people who make the wire would put a bad knot on the back of the spool you will soon see that simpler is better when working with wire I watched the video and they all are either a clinch knot or a snell knot of some type I do like the Albright knot for joining wire to mono but kinda bummed they didn’t show a loop knot check out Berkeley knot wars on the web you will see that they compare almost every knot against the palamar knot witch I use on almost everything except for loop knots or if I have a hook eye that’s just to small to fold your line and get it through but you can even get past this if you pass the line through the eye and then run the tab back through the eye again problem is ever once in a while you will twist the line and it loses some of in strength in this case if there’s one knot you should learn it’s the palamar honestly its super simple and one if not the strongest knots you can tie

I have been using Palomar for Blue fish lures for years. It is my preference for Rapala style stuff and spinners. Because of poor eyesight I don't use it on bait hooks or flies. It is one of those super simple knots you wonder why you didn't learn it as a kid. A-5 prevailed in getting me to use the Improved Clinch instead of the regular. Other knots look important as well. First the loop knot: I use this for large streamers when fly-fishing.
Secondly, knots I don't use yet, the Uni and the Trilene. Lastly, when making leaders, the Knotless snell. That knotless snell seems appropriate for bench-tied leaders and I will attempt to learn to tie it faster.
The best trait to look for, when choosing new knots to learn, is how they are perceived with your hands and brain as you must be able to tie the knots instinctively. In dark and light. Some knots just don't cut it for this left-handed Pennsyvania Dutchman.

Wire to Mono: with pre-made leaders I am likely to use a swivel on the non-hook end and will attach my line to that. When bobber fishing or when using lures with built in Swivels I may be more inclined to tie the leader directly to the line without a swivel. What type of knots would you use for this. I'm thinking the Albright is something I should learn.

Also, do you always use leader or tippet that in lighter than the line to save tearing your line?

Usually you should setup as for what your fishing for. Your leader does not have to be lighter than your main line but it in most situations it is. As for pike fishing your leader can be heavier.

Yes but if you have to break off wouldn't it potentially rip off allot of expensive main line? Like then trout fishing you always step it down and you won't break or ruin a leader if your tippet is smaller.

All depends on what your main line is. If it’s a smaller main line then the leader then it will break at the knot and you’ll loss your whole leader. So basically the setup should be large main line to smaller leader. But of coarse none of this is written in stone.
So many different reasons and setups are ran for different techniques.

I got the 15lb and It is nice enough. As Melvin says the improved clinch works fine. May switch to Loop not in future. So I looked it up and found out it is made right here in Coatesville PA and for that I like it even more.
I'll be getting 10lb soon. Wish I could get 6 or 8lb but I only found it in China. No thanks.

Question: If you were buying it would you want it to be clear or black coated?
